Unison C-SON

A comprehensive, closed-loop Centralised SON solution, tightly integrated with the Unison platform and operating intelligently across all RAN technologies and vendors to automate planning, integration, optimisation, and operations.

C-SON Components

Eleven integrated SON applications

Unison C-SON covers the full SON lifecycle across four domains, Integrate, Plan, Optimise, and Operate, with each application running as a continuous background process using live network data from Unison CM and PM.

ANM
Automatic Neighbour Management
Identifies missing neighbour relations and automatically generates and applies the scripts required to resolve them, across all vendors and technologies, continuously.
AIM
Automatic Interference Management
A backend SON process that continuously monitors the network for frequency and PCI clashes. Based on technology, vendor, and network-specific criteria, it replans offending cells and executes corrections through the Unison OSS implementation engine.
ATM
Automatic Tilt Management
Reactive and proactive coverage optimisation using a combination of static policy rules and AI-driven decision-making. Unison AI analyses performance data from multiple sources, applies incremental tilt changes, and revalidates to converge on the optimal value, managing negative network impact throughout.
ALB
Automatic Load Balancing
Centrally and proactively adjusts parameters related to traffic distribution across cells and technology layers. Unison AI analyses performance inputs from multiple sources to identify load imbalance, decides on parameter changes, and reanalyses post-optimisation for validation. Can orchestrate D-SON solutions responsible for reactive real-time load balancing.
AES
Automatic Energy Saving
Identifies and implements cell-sleep and power-reduction opportunities during low-traffic periods, reducing energy expenditure across the network without impacting customer experience or coverage.
ABM
Automatic Boundary Management
Automates the generation and application of RAN location-based parameters, LAC, TAC, and RAC. Using polygon data, ABM uniquely identifies cells geographically, creates a parenting plan, and applies changes to parameters in the OSS. Supports integration with third-party workflow management tools for zero-touch process automation.
ARO
Automatic RACH Optimisation
Improves LTE and 5G NR network performance by modifying individual cells' RACH settings. RACH collisions are a critical factor in call and session setup success, handover success, uplink noise interference, and coverage limitations, ARO addresses these continuously and automatically.
ADR
Automatic Discrepancy Resolution
Continuously compares live network configuration against defined policy baselines and automatically remediates deviations, ensuring the network remains aligned to design intent at all times without manual audit cycles.
CAM
Cell Administrative Management
Automates routine cell-level administrative tasks, including cell blocking, unblocking, and state management, based on configurable rules and network events, reducing NOC workload for repetitive operational tasks.
Generic SON Features

Built to operate at scale

Across all C-SON applications, Unison provides a consistent operational framework with centralised visibility, governance, and control.

SON Status & monitoring
Analyse ongoing SON activities and monitor the status of all SON processes in real time. Highly configurable, admin users can activate or halt specific SON functions per vendor and technology.
Closed loop exceptions
Exclude specific sites or nodes from closed-loop SON processes for a defined time period. Exceptions can be set to expire automatically or to bypass expiry. Supports bulk import and CSV export of exception lists.
Policy-governed automation
All C-SON actions operate within the Unison CM policy framework, preventing SON from applying changes that conflict with network design governance or active parameter trials.
Multi-vendor, multi-technology
C-SON applications operate across Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei on 2G, 4G, and 5G, with no vendor-specific customisation required for each SON function.
Live data processing
Built on the same live data engine as Unison CM and PM, all SON decisions are based on current network state, not cached or delayed data feeds.
rApp integration via RIC
C-SON functions are progressively available as Non-RT RIC rApps, allowing operators to deploy ANM, AIM, ABM, and ATM through the Unison RIC rApp lifecycle framework.
